Teen Online Problem-Solving (TOPS) is effective in reducing everyday executive functioning challenges (Wade et al., 2019). In a recent review of the evidence base for interventions following brain injury in children, TOPS was recommended as standard care (Laatsch et al., 2020).

In 2016-2019, our research team (Adlam, Limond, Wade et al.) completed a randomised controlled trial (RCT) evaluating the acceptability of TOPS (TOPS-UK) and the feasibility of conducting a definitive RCT in the UK. The findings from this feasibility trial, and what we have learnt from our research since, will be presented in the first part of the talk.

Building on this work, we aim to pilot the implementation of TOPS in the UK using two approaches: i) delivering online coaching for adolescents who have experienced an acquired brain injury (ABI); ii) training a national psychological professions workforce to deliver TOPS-UK with adolescents who have neurodivergent conditions. The implementation methods and approaches will be presented in the second part of the talk along with our future plans for TOPS-UK.
